If you're looking to write modules, I'd suggest finding something that makes your jobs easier/more enjoyable and chances are other people will find it useful as well.
You may also want to consider writing tests.
Update: There's no real need to limit yourself to modules either. You could even try your luck at building Perl Desktop Applications.
