Indeed. The
@varmapresultsarray= map {$_ if $_=~ /$varregexp/i} @vararray;
can be performed via a GREP function, avoinding so the IF condition, in the following manner:
@varmapresultsarray= grep (/$varregexp/i, @vararray);
