Guys ,, I only need to do the following for this line : <message><file>D:\linkctltr.cxx</file><line>68</line><type>Note</type><codee>970</codee><desc>Use outside of a typedef</desc></message> I need this : 
$file = D:\linkctltr.cxx;
$line = 68;
$type = note;
$codee = 970;
$rest = Use outside of a typedef;

I am almost there by doing this : 
my ($filexml, $linexml, $typexml, $restxml) = split(/<\/\w+><\w+>/, $_
+, 4);

however , the first thing in the line which is <message> keep appearing ... do you know away of solving this .. thanks ps. no module plz :)
