my $perlpath = `which perl`;

Allow my to suggest that instead of this, you might consider...

• my $perlpath = $^X;
  (which should allmost allways work unless the shebang of your script is broken and they're executing it as perl create.pl ...)
• File::Which -- which is more portable then `which ...`.
