thanks, that works just fine, i can now retrieve the search list with; 
my $key = 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\
+Parameters\SearchList';
my $search_list = $Registry->{$key};
