As Aristotle has pointed out, you want to set the 'action' attribute for your form. This post is merely to explain what is going on.
First, let's say that you have the following form tag:
<form method="post">
That looks a bit strange as we're used to seeing an action attribute. However, this attribute is actually optional and will default to the current resource. Assuming that the current resource is a static HTML page, you will find yourself POSTing data to an HTML page, which generates a "405 Method not allowed" status code from your Web server as POSTing to an HTML document doesn't make much sense.
For monks who wish to see this in action (no pun intended :), the following is a "minimal test case". Save this as a plain HTML document, access it through your Web server and click submit.
<html> <head> <title>Form test</title> </head> <body> <form method="post"> <input type="text" name="name" value="foo"> <input type="submit"> </form> </body> </html>
Cheers,
Ovid
