Greetings!!

The 
$toplevel->state;

[download]
method returns the state of the toplevel widget. The values are 'normal', 'icon', 'iconic', or 'withdrawn'.

I found the above information in perldoc Tk::wm
Both the $toplevel->witdraw; and the $toplevel->state; methods are described in the documentation.
