Sitting back, the fast beat of music
washes over me as my fingers fly. I see dollar signs,
ampersands, carats. For a joke I put them in my
Word window to watch them turn red.
Music still flies.
So do my fingers.
Looking at the words, your first impression is hate.
The hash sign is not beautiful. The dollar signs abound
making our language look like an out of control
accountant.
No one likes to look at guts.
To use it, you have to go beyond the guts.
More at signs, percent signs, dollar signs fly from my
hands. An outpouring of code, all of it ugly.
But that is the surface, I see the hidden.
Locked away, the mystery of all mysteries
beautiful logic, ugly code.
These secrets sustain my life, they give me bread.
For I know, the secret of Perl, its power.
All those who look upon it, hate it.
All those who use it, love it.
