I think the value of this site is greatly diminished if people with problems can't just go to the SoPW window and ask questions. Requiring registration with a valid email account would be just enough to turn a lot of people away. I don't think it would do much to deter those who really wanted to abuse the site, either. They would just register with some throwaway email address at a free mail site so they could post their drivel.

So far, I'd say the signal to noise ratio here is about the highest I've seen for internet forums. Just don't feed the trolls and they'll get the idea that there's no satisfaction for them here.
