Instead of killing yourself, as suggested by crazyinsomniac, you could also try just exiting. This avoids the shell's response of 'aborted' when the program is killed. I.e.:
sub myhand
{
print "\n caught $SIG{INT}",@_,"\n";
exit(0);
}
