From LWP::Simple ... 
     head($url)
        Get document headers. Returns the following 5 values if
        successful:  ($content_type, $document_length,
        $modified_time, $expires, $server)

        Returns an empty list if it fails.  In scalar context
        returns TRUE if successful.
