Is there an elegant way to determine whether all elements in an array are the same, aside from brute-force?

While I am here, I can't resist telling everyone what a fabulous resource this place is. Three times in a row I came here with a very complex query and with each one, by the time I had finished describing the problem in detail, I had figured out the answer.
