I've been deprived of the wonders of mod_perl for my web apps since I am on a shared hosting account. It seems that mod_perl is not suitable for multi-user environemnts, because users would be able to access each other's variables. (This is my ISP's reason not to install it.)
However, I have seen lots of ISPs (include mine) that use mod_php. Apparently, there seems to be no security issues there. Shouldn't it have the same issues as mod_perl, or are the designs of both modules really fundamentally different? Would it be possible to secure mod_perl in a way that it would be suitable for multi-user environments?
