Where I work, the owner of the company loves perl. I mean he really loves it. He loves it so much in fact that all new development must be done with perl.
The problem that I have with this is that we are developing high quality software for the Army. I am not saying that perl can't be used to create high quality applications. I am just saying that I think it is easier in other languages.
The fact that there is no type checking, the sometimes cryptic syntax, and the unusual object oriented features seems to be hindering our development.
I am in no way insulting perl. It is a great language. I just don't think it is a practical solution for what we are doing. So, what I ask of the monks is this, does anyone else think that there are times to use perl, and times to forgo its use?
