Yes, but it's not so bad. The core modules will be built when perl is, so they will take no particular effort. Pure perl modules will be fine. XS modules will cause no particular confusion, since their solibs are installed under a platform dependent directory, like site_perl/5.8.0/i686-linux-thread-multi. The old versions will not interfere with the new. CPAN autobundle will be handy for reinstalling your favorite modules.
