In your opinion, is Perl a good place to start (not necessarily the end all) learning the principles of OOP in general?

I've gone through the learning perl book some time ago and I'd rather brush up on my basic Perl and then move on to Randal Schwartz new book, "Learning Perl Objects, References, and Modules" instead of learning Java just to acquire a knowledge of OOP.
