i need to untaint an email address, and my reg-ex looks right (to my eyes) however it does not work correctly in the program .
    if ($tainted =~ /\w{3}[\w.]*\@[\w.]+/)
     {
       $untainted = "$1\@$2";
     }

i do not see my error, but $untainted always ends up being equal to @. any thoughts?
