I'm not sure that this is potentially more efficient in Perl (probably less efficent?), but is an idiom I remember from my Amiga asm days. Personally, I also think it's easier to see what's going on too :)my $flipflop = 1; for my $row_ref ( @$ary ) { ... $flip_flop = 1 - $flipflop; }
