I've never used encryption before, so bare with me if these questions seem too simplistic for the wise minds we have here on PM.

Pretend we have a login script which stores $user{$pass}.. When do you encrypt/decrypt the password? Do you encrype the entire database and decrypt when the login script is called or does the script encrypt the password before it stores into the DB and you decrypt it when you need it?
