I have never used AsciiDB. But I had a quick look at the source. It appears to use the module File::Spec, so I wouild check out that module. AsciiDB is Pure Perl so you can mess with the source if you need to quite easily!

File::Spec is part of the base distribution of Perl at 5.8.0 (which is what I use) documentation on it is naturally included in your html docs if you are using AS Perl.
