I've been a perl developer for some time. Im lead developer in a small team, without any title, which is part of a much larger development team. Recently events have conspired in such a way that I've been offered a job in tech security.

My question or meditation for the monks at large is this: If I take the job will this compromise my developer credentials? If you were hiring and you saw a person apply for a dev job and they had "system security" on their CV would this put you off? Am I mad to consider a job in tech security (actually a somewhat senior one)?

If I take this job it will almost certainly involve relocating to a place that I'm not real sure will be conducive to overall happiness. The job will probably involve more money, but relocating to a place that I dont really want to be.

Is this the offer of a lifetime or a poisoned pill?

I welcome any thoughts on the subject. Specifically do you think that taking a role in system security will minimize my future opportnites in pure developement? Should I sit tight and keep my dev job (which im not entirely satisfied with) or should I seize the day and go for the security position?
