I'm having a tough time figuring this one out. I need to grep some records into an array based on the contents of a given field. I think I'm better off using grep rather than:
foreach (@recs){
   @rec = split /:/ or next;
   push(@goodrecs, @rec) if ($this =~ /$that/);
etc ....
}

The problem I'm running into is creating an expr that lets me match to the nth field, while ignoring all else.
Bear in mind that some fields could be blank.
I've been banging my head against this one most of the day. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
