I and several others who were browsing through the Monastery were surprised to see the following in the Chatterbox this morning:

merlyn upvotes a couple more posts that mention him by name

Now, this surprised me. After all, isn't this the same merlyn who repeatedly complains about irresponsible -- votes on his nodes? The same merlyn who complains bitterly at every unexplained -- vote?

Well, now the truth becomes clear.

merlyn doesn't care about responsible voting. He doesn't care about fair treatment. It doesn't matter if a post is well written, correct, or even if it's flat out wrong. The only thing that matters, apparently, is that it be by or about merlyn.

Very well. Here's my response to your arrogance and vanity, Mr. Randal Schwartz. Every single post of yours that I see, regardless of content, gets a --. Every single one. Every post that simply talks about how cool you are gets a --. Every post that I suspect you might have voted ++ on because of vanity gets a --. And I am not alone in taking this action.

You have also lost any and all respect I might have had for you.

It's a sad state of affairs when the leaders of any community act in such a fashion as to require a node like this one. It's even worse when I don't feel that I can take credit for my own words. This is being posted under a separate user account partly because this action is being taken as a group, rather than by one person, but also because it's rapidly becoming very clear that Merlyn Groupies will swarm to his defense regardless. So be it.

Well, Mr. Schwartz, this post mentions you by name. Gonna vote it up?
