Just a thought... if you were to listen to these samples as audio, what you should be hearing is pure, constant noise. The color/sound of the noise is an indication of the interindependence of the samples. I think what you should hear, for independent samples, is white noise — all linear frequency ranges represented equally strong.

Perhaps you could use FFT or similar, on a large enough sample, to figure out the spectrum of the sample?
