I have vague recollections of seeing an algorithm for determining the next largest prime that didn't use the Eratosthenes sieve method or knowledge of all preceeding primes. I haven't turned it up on Google, but searching for prime algorithms turns up a huge number of hits, mostly saying the same things or moving into levels of math way beyond my understanding.
Did I imagine it, or is it out there somewhere?
