I'm sure this is quite simple, but I'm not finding anything that shows me a simple way to do this. I have an XML file that looks like this:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<list>
  <item>
    <name>item_name_1</name>
    <working>yes</working>
    <uptime>5</uptime>
    <downdime></downtime>
  </item>
  <item>
    <name>item_name_2</name>
    <working>yes</working>
    <uptime>5</uptime>
    <downdime></downtime>
  </item>
.
.
.
</list>

I need to be able to read in this file and parse out the XML tags into a hash. Before anyone mentions it, we do not have XML::Simple installed, and it cannot be done, as per $client.
