I have this now ... 
my @badnames = glob( $dir . '/*{!,@,#,$,%,^,&,\ ,(,),[,|,<,>,;,+,=,`,~
+}*');

This works fine, but when I try and add ] or } or \ everything matches. I have tried \] \} and \\. The funny thing is that [ { work just fine.
