Can someone just give me a snippet on how to connect to a MySQL db from a website? I know there are tons of tutorials out there but for those of you who use it a lot, would you mind sparing a minute or two?

Basically I'm just looking for how to connect to a mysql database and how to write to a table and retrieve from one on a website. Most of the tutorials I see look like they're programmed for command line or something and not FOR CGI, that's why I'm asking.
