into 
my $mysqldate = join ("-", @dateparts{ qw(YEAR MONTH DAY) });

[download]
@dateparts{qw(YEAR MONTH DAY)} is just an easier way of saying 
@dateparts{("YEAR", "MONTH", "DAY")}

[download]
which is an easy way of saying
($dateparts{YEAR}, $dateparts{MONTH}, $datepart{DAY})
