can you please help me to write a regular expression to validate emailid of a person. and even to validate mobileno .

i have written one expression can you tell wht is the error in the code given below: 

if($email && ($email !~ m/^\w{2,}\.*\-*\w*\@\w{2,}(\.\w{2,4})+$/ || $e
+mail =~ m/[;><&\*`\|]/))
