With a few exceptions, that list is mostly an evil hackers list, not a good hackers list.

It's nice to know that I've met most of the people on that list though, even if Larry and I aren't on the list. {grin}

They have my buddy Linus as working for Transmeta though. He hasn't worked there for six months or more. He's working for OSDL now, based a few miles from my home, although he's working remotely from the bay area.

It looks like the typical "these are the {evil} hackers that made the news over the years" list that I've seen paraded out over and over. The people who have done the truly best hacks that I'm aware of aren't even close to being on there, or being in the news. They don't care that they aren't known by popular media: in fact, it's easier for them that they are avoided.

So, don't fret. This is a self-selecting list, and has no relevance to greatness of contribution, or consequences of devastation.

By the way, Robert "worm" Morris and I met shortly after I was sentenced, and we compared his damage to mine, and his sentence to mine. Sad. I met his dad, the NSA contractor Bob Morris, the same weekend, and that guy was a hoot. And, as a ribbing, I also asked Robert if he understood the difference between less than and greater than now, and he chuckled. (If you don't understand that, go read the descriptions of the worm and why it spread so fast.)
