I'm not quite sure why you feel you need to execute the code inside the regex.
perldoc perlre says that code is highly experimental.
I'd do it like this:
if ($file_name =~ m#
(?<=/a/)
(\d{2,4})(\d{2})(\d{2})(?:ag)?#x) {
@date{'YEAR', 'MONTH', 'DAY'} = ((
length($1) == 2
? '19' . $1
: $1), $2, $3
),$2,$3);
}
Am I overlooking some reason why that wouldn't work for you?
