Recently in the Chatterbox I asked about using the DEL tag in my posts, rather than the currently accepted STRIKE tag. My reason for this is that the STRIKE tag has been deprecated in HTML 4.01, while the DEL tag does pretty much everything the STRIKE tag does, plus supply semantic meaning. tye asked for a list of the tags not currently supported by PM. I've made a list, but left out obvious tags like OBJECT and FRAME, which I feel do not need to be included.

This topic has been mentioned before by jonadab in his comment Re: Site HTML filtering, Phase II. However, jonadab only listed a few of the tags not currently supported by PM.

Tags Not Currently Supported

TagAttributes
ABBR lang, title
ACRONYM lang, title
ADDRESS n/a
CAPTION n/a
CITE n/a
COL span, width, align, valign
COLGROUP span, width, align, valign
DEL cite, datetime
DFN title
INS cite, datetime
KBD n/a
Q cite
SAMP title
TBODY align, valign
TFOOT align, valign
THEAD align, valign
VAR n/a

Additional Attributes

Some tags already supported by PM should also allow the following attributes.

TagAttributes
BLOCKQUOTE cite
TABLE summary, title

Conclusion

Hopefully the inclusion of the above tags and attributes will allow the monks here to create posts with greater semantic meaning if they so choose.

Thank you for your time.

Update: Fixed a spelling mistake with acronym.
Update II: Added readmore tags.
