Hi,
I'm writing a script to perform a 'file poll' on Windows 2000 servers... that is, it will open a file name and periodically write $time\n to the file to ensure that file access to that server is working.
This all works fine as a script, however when compiled as a service, it fails to detect failures
I've tried a number of different methods, the simplest being...
if (open (FH,">>$filename"){
#something GOOD;
}
else {
#something BAD;
}
Other methods I've tried include; using syswrite and flock to check for file access, they both work in a script but fail as a service. Only an 'if exists' (-e) actually works, but this doesn't confirm write access
Any ideas? I'm using dev kit version 2 to complile the code.
