    $\ = undef ;
    print 'somestuff';
    print "\rOVERWRITE\n";

But I don't understand, because: 
    print "Text";
    print " MoreText\n";

[download]
Does not get printed as: 
Text
 MoreText

[download]
as $\ being "\n" would seem to imply. I am using version 5.005.
