Your "safer reset script" is based on a programming style which is inheirently flawed and dangerous. Many people have already tried to point this out, and clearly you're not listening, so I won't waste any further bandwidth on it.
As for strict, one might note that theDamian often doesn't use strict, either. But if you put a use strict at the top of his code, most of it would work, anyway.
Most importantly, strict is there to help you learn lexical scoping. Which is the alternative to your variable resetting. So you see, these two points are actually related.
