Try the following: 
$ver="abc.txt";
open (IN,$ver);
$new="new.txt";
open(OUT,"> $new");
while (<IN>){
   <IN> and next if /^FIELD/; 
   print OUT;
}

This should print to new.txt all lines except any beginning with FIELD and the line immediately following.
