For most of my CGI apps that I write I have HTML templates which contain <!-- comments --> which I replace with $variables, I do this by parsing with a regex like 
$html_template =~ s/<!--some_variable-->/$variable/g;

On some pages I have many variables to replace, currently I have the above line repeated as many times as there are unique variables to replace. My question is can I do this in 1 regex? something like 
s/<!--var1-->,<!--var2-->/$var1,$var2/g;

[download]

I'm guessing there is some better way so I don't parse the template over and over
