Actually a unix admin job in Edinburgh is definitely viable. I've seen lots on jobserve.co.uk. However it's hard to get a perl programming job in Edinburgh. Its ok if you've got decent C or Java, but not by itself. There is an Edinburgh perl mongers as well, but the list is very low traffic.
