I had this installed for my "production" code, just didn't include this in my snip to perlmonks because tried with and without and it didn't seem to make any difference. I can see why you might think it did, because it's an https url, and I have had situations where it does (hence I have it in my "production" code), but if you run the original script I had, without ssleay, you see it's fine (for the second post grab).

I'm not sure what you're driving at with the Dumper call either... how should I be enlightened?
