Is there a way in Perl to slice a string into serialized variables.

$s="1029576843"
do loop
end up with

$f0 = 1 
$f1 = 0
$f2 = 2
$f3 = 9
$f4 = 5
$f5 = 7
$f6 = 6
$f7 = 8
$f8 = 4
$f9 = 3
