Challenge:

How many ways does Perl have to cut off the first char of a string?
conditions:
Here are the obvious solutions: 
use strict;

my $s = "123456789";

substr($s,0,1)="";
print "$s\n";

$s =~ s/^.//;
print "$s\n";


$s = reverse $s;
chop $s;
$s = reverse $s;
print "$s\n";
