The simple solution is to use this module I just whipped up (SelfRecord.pm):

This is used simply, so that:
#!/usr/bin/perl -w
use strict;
require SelfRecord;

print "Hello!"

[download]
Becomes: 
#!/usr/bin/perl -w
use strict;
require SelfRecord;

print "Hello!"

__END__
Hello!

[download]
When run.
