I wrote a script that analyzes some logs written by another program, that currently I cannot modify. Now I must find a means to know wether a certain log is still being written. I cannot rely on semantics, i.e. checking completeness/well-formedness because the problem I'm actually dealing with has to do with "incomplete" logs.

Now I know that the fuser utility can identify if a file is in use, so I wonder if I can imitate that functionality in perl (I don't want to run fuser itself from within my script, if possible). I tried to check the documentation for fcntl and Fcntl but I'm not even sure if that is the right direction...

Any suggestion?
