I'm having a very hard time deciding which graphics
package to use.
I have looked at Gtk2, Image::Magick, GD, Tk, and havn't
been able to decide which of them (or possibly another one)
will accomplish what I am looking for the easiest.
Here is a list of what I want from the package.
- Runs on *nix and Win32.
- Easy to draw/shade/colour lines/areas on some sort of pixel based palette/canvas.
- Ability to catch mouse click/move events and report which pixel it occurs on for further action.
- Plays well with other modules, particularly networking ones, as ideally I'll be building a client/server
- Nice widgets for the rest of the gui would be nice, but not critical.
A little more about what I'm planning to use this for...
I'm building a random dungeon and dragons dungeon generator/remote playing aid.
Nothing fancy, random, senseless dungeon crawl type stuff,
with a little chat interface to amuse a few friends and I when we can't get together for a real table top session.
I'd like to be able to have the others clicked on the map to note where someone is intending to be going, trapping that click, sent to the server, which can then send instructions back to draw a further part of the map.
I would appreciate any advice, and suggestions to make sure I choose the right toolkit for this.
