I was recently asked by a co-worker why I use Perl instead of a language which is compilable (ie: c++, java, etc). After I snickered and said TMTOWTDI, they narrowed the discussion by specifically bringing up performance differences.

I wanted to propose the same question to this community. What are the performance pro's && con's between using a compilable language vs. Perl?
