The thing of interest is that %_ is accepted as a defined variable by use strict; use warnings;
use strict; use warnings; %_ = ( a => 1, b => 2 ); print $_ {"a"};
does not generate any errors or warnings. Maybe that was what OP meant by "predefined"?
