A couple of items:

a) I said it was untested. Which means it could have bugs. It's sorta like saying, "fixing this to work in your situation is left as an excersise for the reader."

b) you probably should be using strict and warnings. You'd see evidence of problems and be asking different questions instead.

c) you should be using File::Find, too, if you aren't already (you're not showing your new code with the new problems, so you might be doing this already).

d) see the correction above to the case. I'll leave the rest as an excersise for the reader.
