... with Perl (maybe I should get out more).
I'm fairly new to Perl, coming from C, C++, and (shudder) assembly language. I avoided Perl because I thought it was just a sort of scripting language, kind of like bash with a few more features. Was I ever wrong.
I am simply amazed at the power and speed of Perl, and at how it just "knows" what to do. In fact, I'm still having problems because Perl often knows better than I do what is needed.
Recently I needed to write something that would go through an access log file and look for potential exploits. I expected at least a week of solid work, especially since I hadn't used Perl before. A half hour later I had a working version. It looks ridiculous as far as Perl is concerned, but it does the job. And I'm learning...
