Actual problem seems to be that your "tabs" are actually spaces, probably due to editor settings. Use the following for your split:

  my ($filename, $filepath) = split '\s+', $line;

[download]

unless of course you have spaces in your file names or paths :)

Perl is Huffman encoded by design.
